Lauterstein Wins Double Gold at Paris Open
Following strong performances in the Mare Nostrum series (Barcelona, Canet & Monte Carlo), Andrew Lauterstein has won gold in the 50m and 100m Butterfly at the Paris Open Championships. Andrew swam a personal best time of 23.27 seconds in the 50m, bettering his previous Australian record of 23.30 (24 hours earlier, Matt Targett set a new Australian record of 23.17 in Montreal). In the 100m, Andrew clocked his fastest time on tour (51.44), ensuring that he remained unbeaten in this event throughout the four European meets, a significant achievement given that he defeated strong opposition on the tour in Olympic silver medalist Milorad Cavic, world record holder Roland Shoeman and Rafael Munoz, who is waiting ratification of a new world record. The stage has been set for a blockbuster showdown with Olympic champion, Michael Phelps, at the World Championships in Rome (17 July – 2 August).
